The diesel market in the US has been on the rise as of late, with more brands jumping on the trend.

Jeep, Ram, Chevrolet, Mazda, etc.

Here's my question: What mainstream vehicle should be offered with a diesel engine in the US?

That means no luxury brands, sports cars, or supercars.

It has to be a model of a more affordable brand, and has to be a model already sold in the US or one that is officially planned to be sold here in the near future (like the Jeep Renegade, for example).

(Not sure if this has been asked here before or not.)

Prius.

Seriously, though. Although almost no one here would get one, it makes a lot sense.

Edit: or any other mainstream hybrid, of course.

Hmm...if diesel Prius meant an AWD diesel-hybrid Prius, I'd be all for it.

Especially if it looked less like a regular Prius and more like a Prius C/Aqua.

Camry, Corolla, pretty much anything in Toyota's lineup. It could be marketed as "eco-friendly" (even though it isn't) and it would meet their high-MPG goals they have for their vehicles.

That shouldn't be too hard, just take the 3.2 I5 diesel out of the new Transit.

Maybe put a turbo on it, too, to boost power a bit.

Agreed.

If VW can do it, why can't Ford?

I honestly wouldn't mind that.

Especially if it meant an I6 diesel Tundra/Sequoia and I4 diesel Tacoma/4Runner.

I just really want Mazda to hurry up and bring the SkyActiv Diesel to America.

Yes, with the existing VM Motori A 428 under the hood.

Yeah, it's taking way longer than expected.

And the longer it takes, the less likely a diesel 3 or CX-5 is.
